It’s that time of year… Empowerem is recruiting for Executive Team members.  Is this going to be your year to apply?

If it’s been on your mind and or has just recently sparked interest for you, consider these 5 reasons for why you should apply!

1) We Empower Women of Colour!

As an organization founded and run primarily by women of colour, we know how important it is to provide spaces and programming made for women of colour. We often hear about the gender wage gap but there is an even more of a disparity for women of colour!

In being part of Empower’em, you will be at the forefront of the movement empowering and connecting women of colour in meaningful, hands-on ways.

2) Meet Like-Minded People

Empower’em is a community. Not only will you be part of an amazing team of friendly and skilled women, you will also have opportunities to interact with the participants of Empowerem’s programming, volunteers and people from other organizations.  You will have the chance to make friendships and network all year long with people who are also striving for women empowerment.

3) Help Communities

Part of Empower’em is being involved in different communities in Ottawa and participating in community initiatives that support various organizations and causes.  This past year Empower’em collected items for the Herlidays event, check it out!

4) Gain New Skills

If you are on the Empower’em Executive Team you are guaranteed the opportunity to learn new skills, be a leader and be creative in your work. Since we are a growing grassroots group, you will have the freedom to try new things and make mistakes. Empower’em is always open to creative new ideas and using your skill set to positively impact women.

5) Great Experience for Future Applications

Since you’ll be using many transferable skills as a member of the Empower’em team, you can be sure that the experience will be a great addition to your future employment or educational application. We are happy to provide reference letters for team members.

If you’re a University of Ottawa student, you can also get hours on your co-curricular record by tracking the hours that you spend growing Empower’em.

Whenever you are in your educational path, you can apply to Empower’em. Applications are open to high school students, university students and working professionals. The time commitment is aproximately 5-10 hours per week.
