Empowerem’s Safe Space Project:

Empowerem just received a grant to organize safe spaces for young Muslim women in the city of Ottawa from May 2019 – December 2019. We are looking for young women with lived experience in Mental health to help organize a series of safe space workshops and art therapy sessions to facilitate discussions and peer support.

Mental Health Lead

Responsibilities:

Working with a group of co-leads (other young women with lived experience and mental health advocates) to facilitate a peer support group, coordinate with counselors in the city and prepare peer resources. More information will be provided during interviews.

Qualifications:

  • Young women of colour, especially Muslim women are strongly encouraged to apply

President (Co-President)

Responsibilities:

  • Chairing meetings
  • Communicating, organizing the overall dynamic of the team
  • Working with members in the group
  • Being adjustable and flexible to team members needs
  • Making suggestions/feedback and leading/guiding as needed
  • Overseeing all affairs ex: look over newsletters, social media posts, finances
  • Working with the team to apply for grants and funding opportunities
  • Conducting weekly wellness check-ups

External Communications Director

Responsibilities:

  • Establishing strong relationships with community partners
  • Building relationship with relevant sponsors
  • Acting as the spokesperson for Empowerem for any media related opportunities
  • Working with marketing and creative director to create a strong communications strategy

Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong sales skills
  • Previous experience with sponsorship is an asset
  • Previous experience in a similar role is an asset
  • Passionate about women empowerment and a committed individual
Administrator Director

Responsibilities:

  • Booking tables and rooms for weekly meetings and events as needed
  • Taking notes for each meeting, sending out meeting minutes regularly and assuring every member knows their tasks to be completed
  • Informing members of upcoming meetings by coordinating with members to send out meeting agenda
  • Scheduling weekly meeting based on everyone’s availability (at the beginning)
  • Scheduling tabeling events and coordinating availability and tasks
  • Other admin related tasks

Financial Director

Responsibilities:

  • Creating a budget for the year and keeping track of all revenue and expenses
  • Assisting with the budget for all events to clearly identify break even points
  • Sending a request for reimbursement to our Partner organization, (tracking this properly)
  • Working with a clear filing mechanism to keep track of all receipts
  • Writing grant proposals

Qualifications:

  • Majoring in Finance or related fields are considered an asset
  • Previous experience managing large amounts of money is considered an asset
  • Grant writing experience is an asset
  • Organized, Reliable and Accountable

Editorial Director

Responsibilities:

  • Finding appropriate bloggers and working with current cohort of bloggers
  • Creating a blogging schedule and editing blog content
  • Optimizing blog photos
  • Recognizing young women in the community to highlight them on our blog (interviewing strong women in the community)
  • Ensuring all content on the website is coherent

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of layout principles of blog
  • Team oriented
  • Strong written communications skills
  • Previous experience writing/editing blogs is considered an asset
  • French is an asset
  • Passionate about women empowerment and a committed individual
Social Media Director

Responsibilities

  • Managing social media campaigns and platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc)
  • Having a strong understanding of our target group
  • Promoting campaigns and creating sponsored ads
  • Increasing social media followers/social metrics by keeping track of numbers
  • Keeping track of any relevant social media trends and applying it to Empower’em (ex: 10-year challenge)

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with social media in a professional setting is considered an asset
  • Ability to keep up with current trends to relate to our audience
  • Strong Communication skills and creative background
  • Passionate about women empowerment and a committed individual
Creative Director

Responsibilities:

  • Working with the team to create any necessary graphics and Videos  
  • Creating rough drafts, editing and producing proper content (graphics and videos) to post on social platforms
  • Utilizing knowledge of proper design principles

Qualifications:

  • Good eye for effective design and understanding of ways to optimize layout, design and content
  • Organized and Team-oriented
  • Previous artistic experience is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator etc) is considered an asset
  • Passionate about women empowerment and a committed individual
Website Director

Responsibilities:

  • Have a fair understanding of Internet technology, hosting, and domain registration and an ability to use the technology required to update and backup the site (such as content management system or coding) *particularly working with a WordPress website and perhaps Woo Commerce
  • Good eye for effective design and understanding of ways to optimize layout, design and content of the website
  • Maintaining website on a regular basis, optimizing photos as necessary
  • Familiar with online marketing tools (SEO, Social Media, etc)
  • Need to have some creativity – to create/ edit content when necessary

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with WordPress is considered an asset
  • Previous experience maintaining a website in a professional setting is considered an asset

Project Managers

Responsibilities:

  • Delegate roles
  • Create a project plan/timeline/definition of scope or goal of the project (within the guidelines of budget)

Responsibilities:

  • Connecting with young women in your community and acting as a representative to voice the opinions and challenges of young women of colour and newcomers
  • Attending all Empowerem tabling events
  • Promoting Empowerem events within their own network
  • Recognizing and nominating inspirational women in our community to highlight
  • Working as a team with other Empowerem ambassadors

Volunteer Coordinator

Responsibilities: 

  • Updating the volunteer handbook
  • Training volunteers and finding new ways to motivate them
  • Helping in the recruitment process at the end of the year
  • Organizing volunteer orientation events and the end of the year volunteer appreciation dinner

Internal Communications Director

Responsibilities:

  • Creating and sending newsletters campaigns to Empowerem’s 500+ members
  • Increasing reach awareness for Empowerem
  • Creating more engagement within the Empowerem community through different creative means
